Claire Coupland unveils her new latest single, “1000 Miles From A Dream”

Canadian singer-songwriter, Claire Coupland, has released the second single off her sophomore album New Light, due out in early 2023. “1000 Miles From A Dream” can be heard everywhere you stream music.

“1000 Miles From A Dream” paints a vivid fictional interpretation of a woman in an unhappy and abusive marriage and her ultimate escape to find a better life for herself.  One night, she makes her escape into the dark, suitcase in hand, money to catch a train – “lines he crossed, she hides with makeup and lace / by the dawn, she’ll be gone, no trace.

“A powerful and driving song with a laid-back and intentional groove,” Coupland said of the single.

Review

With a stirring yet mellow beat, “1000 Miles From A Dream” is an emotion-filled track with Claire’s delicate vocals narrating the story of a woman’s escape from abuse to a new life.

The lyrics throughout the song evoke such an intense passion that you feel as though you know the woman in the story.

As Claire sings, “Coins in her pocket jangle, Enough to make the train, Hair in a hurried tangled, Arrangements set in place, Cold trigger by her side, And the moon on her wing, For all the troubled nights she cried, Now she sings, 1000 Miles From A Dream,” I felt my heart ache for this woman, but also had a hopefulness that she made her way to a new life, a safe life, a life where she’s loved, and respected.

I found myself belting out the anthemic chorus in an encouraging way as I was rooting for her through it all.

I loved Claire’s previous single, “Love Song,” but I have to say this one takes the cake, and I can’t wait to hear the rest of New Light.
