AJA is back with her latest single, “How Do You Sleep?”
Rising Canadian powerhouse AJA (Aja Neinstein) has returned with her brilliant new single, “How Do You Sleep?”
Communicating with perfect poise, AJA reflects on the toxicity that she was faced with whilst completing her final two years of High School. Using her talent for songwriting as a form of catharsis, “How Do You Sleep?” comes as an authentic offering that’s catchy as hell.
Explaining more, AJA shares:
“This song is more of an emotional take on my high school experience. It stems off of my last single ‘Bad Game Of Telephone,’ which was more literal. ‘How do you sleep’ touches more on the emotional impact of those experiences. Sometimes it’s ok to be exhausted from the drama. Take your time to process it, feel it, move on and you’ll be stronger as a result.”

First off, care to introduce yourself to our readers?
Hey, I’m AJA. I am a Canadian singer/songwriter.
You have unveiled your single, “How Do You Sleep?” What can you tell us about the writing process behind the single?
I am so excited this song is out. The moment I wrote it, I wanted it to come out. It’s always interesting how a song is really a snapshot of what is going on in your life. I had been in LA for a week and was writing songs for seven days straight about some crazy drama I was dealing with. I was working with Jimmy McGorman and Rob Vallier, and I was so emotionally charged. We wrote it and tracked vocals in 1 day. Loved The demo! We work well together, and we are super comfortable around each other. They get me and can pick up on my mood very quickly. Writing with them has taught me so much about songwriting. Both are extremely gifted writers.
This single follows previous singles, “Bad Game of Telephone” and “Love At First Song.” When can we expect an EP or album release?
Yes. “Bad game of Telephone” was me telling the story of what went down, and “How Do You Sleep” is more of the emotional aftermath of what happened.
I would really like to release an EP early in the new year. I feel like I wrote so much about the drama of being in high school, especially being at an all-girls school. I want to share this. Many people who struggle in high school will connect to this music and my lyrics. But, I’ve moved on from this drama, and so many new things are going on for me that I’d like to share. I live on my own in LA and have written some amazing songs that I can’t wait to share.
What is your favourite thing about the music scene in Toronto?
I think Toronto is home to many amazing talented artists. Toronto is a great city to collaborate and get out to perform live. There are amazing venues, and the fans are incredible.
What else can we expect from you in 2022?
I feel like I am growing up and having so many incredible experiences and emotions. I am also collaborating with some amazing people. My songwriting and vocals are getting stronger, and I am evolving as an artist. I have been inspired by this process. I also feel like, for the first time in my life, I am really taking charge of what I want to put out and how I want to put it out. Having control and a voice is really important to me. I plan to write at least 100 songs over the course of this year and put out as much music as possible. I am looking forward to performing live in festivals and possibly doing a tour at some point. I miss performing live! It is my favourite thing to do. There is nothing like the connection during a live performance. I stay connected to fans online, but nothing beats seeing fans live in person.
