Monster Truck – Warriors (Album Review: Song By Song)

Warriors

Band: Monster Truck
Album: Warriors
Release Date: September 30, 2022
Genre: Rock

JUNO Award-winning rock band Monster Truck released their epic, fourth full-length album, Warriors, on September 30, 2022, via BMG.

The 10-track album, produced by multiple GRAMMY and JUNO Award-winning producer Eric Ratz (Arkells, Big Wreck, Billy Talent), is everything you would expect from Monster Truck and more, bringing the band’s signature, riff-driven brand of rock to new heights.

The album features previously released singles “Golden Woman,” “Get My Things & Go,” and “Fuzz Mountain,” which have done great on iTunes rock charts and Canadian rock radio charts.

The opening track, “Warriors,” immediately introduces the listener to Monster Truck’s intense, rocking talent. The anthemic track’s chorus repeats, “We are the warriors, the warriors, the warriors, Oh we are the warriors, the warriors, the warriors, We fight till we die.” By the end of this track, the listener will be ready to rock.

“Fuzz Mountain” and “Golden Woman” are next, and it’s easy to see why these two tracks have been released as singles. With “Fuzz Mountain” garnering over 80,000 listens on Spotify and “Golden Woman” over 730,000, it’s quite obvious these two tracks attracted listeners, and as they should.

Up next, “Live Free” continues the intense rock journey that Monster Truck is taking us on. The heavy, gruff vocals and robust beat, mixed with the lyrics, “Live free, Won’t let no one mess with me, Live free, You will never take that away from me,” once again give off an anthemic vibe, which Monster Truck does so well. When listening, you not only feel the lyrics, but also get the urge to live them.

Coming in at the halfway point, “Country Livin'” instantly caught my attention. On this track, the band merges their usual intense rock sound with an alt-country vibe. The lyrics, “I wanna spend my time country livin’, On the back porch whiskey drinkin’, If you need me I’ll be out in the yard, Drinking sweet tea and playing guitar,” perfectly encapsulates the country livin’ stereotype, which honestly sounds amazing.

“Get My Things & Go,” which amassed over 335,000 listens on Spotify, starts off showcasing a slightly different side of the band, which is reminiscent of a classic rock track. As the song continues, that intensity that we’ve come to know and love from Monster Truck appears, and I dare you not to get up and play some air guitar on this one! This is a definite party starter.

“Love & Time” begins with a punchy rock beat, which is joined by powerful vocals that are sure to pump up the listener. The lyrics, “All we have is love and time, All we have is love and time,” is a true sentiment that is embedded in the listener’s brain after listening to the track. Take time to enjoy your life, live your best life, and love hard.

As we reach “I Got A Feelin’,” we are up on our feet and ready to party. As the band belts out, “Tonight I’m fired up, Nothing but good luck, Ready to raise the cup,” and “I’m ready, I’m able, Tonight’s the night,” you feel the passion and excitement behind the lyrics. This would be absolutely killer performed live, with the crowd jumping around and shouting the lyrics along with the band.

“Wild Man” is a straight-up party song that I can see being blasted on road trips, at parties, or performed live at a festival or show, with fans soaking it all in. The fast-paced beat doesn’t stop until the very end of the song, leaving the listener hyped up and craving more.

Closing out the album, “Still Got Fire,” brings down the energy, but only slightly. The lyrics, “I still got fire, I still got fire, in my blood, and you’re never gonna take it away,” evokes a level of confidence and a feeling of believing in yourself.

All in all, this release perfectly showcases Monster Truck’s talent and gives the listener the oppurtunity to join the party, rocking the day away with the album on repeat.
