The Standstills return with new single, Motherlode ft. Eagles Of Death Metal

Oshawa, ON-based band, The Standstills, have unveiled their latest single, “Motherlode,” from their upcoming album, Shockwave, which is set for release on November 4 via MNRK.

The new track features the legendary Eagles Of Death Metal. It’s a groovy desert rock-styled track with a punchy chorus and gets my head banging.

Offer’s The Standstills Jonny Fox on working with Eagles of Death Metal’s Jesse Hughes:

“Renee and I spent some time in LA to get inspired to write what would eventually become our new album, Shockwave. If you are a musician and spend any significant time in Los Angeles you will run into the city’s unofficial mayor, Father Badass, Jesse Hughes. We instantly hit it off, loving similar styles of music and sharing the same outlook on creative arts. Before we knew it, we were at a Bar-B-Que at his place that turned into a full-tilt jam session in his living room that lasted a couple days. Unfortunately, we never stopped to record any of it. Fast forward a few months to when we completed ‘Motherload’ with Neil Sanderson of Three Days Grace; the song reminded us of our time out West with Jesse, and it just felt natural to as him and Josh Jove to be a part of it. Without a second’s hesitation, Jesse jumped at it. He is truly one of kind, not afraid to speak his mind, and we loved that.”

Care to introduce yourself to our readers?

Hello, we are The Standstills – a rock band from the Greater Toronto Area. We spent most of our career as a duo, Renee Couture on drums and Jonny Fox on vocals and guitar. As we’ve grown and further developed our sound, we recently added bass player Brendan McMillian from My Darkest Days to help solidify our bottom end. Our music is equal parts stoner rock, alternative rock, and hard rock, with a dash of rhythm and blues.

Tell us a bit about your most recent release.

Shockwave is our second full-length album. It was produced by Three Days Grace drummer and main songwriter Neil Sanderson and mixed by Grammy Award-winner Howard Benson. The songs are derived from Jonny and Renee’s personal experiences as a couple in a band, moving up the ranks in the rock world.

Where do you tend to pull inspiration from when writing?

Life experiences, emotions, relationships, cinema, and outer worldly ideas.

Do you have any upcoming shows or festivals you’d like to tell us about?

We are touring across Canada with Three Days Grace and The Warning beginning in November, and we will also be aboard the Shiprocked Cruise in January 2023.

What’s your goal for 2022?

Touring globally to bring our new album to life in front of as many people as possible.
