Renny Siento Band to celebrate new single, “Underground,” at Horseshoe Tavern

The Toronto-based Reeny Siento Band is set to unveil their latest single, “Underground,” along with a music video to accompany the release, on September 29.

The backstory of the video has special meaning; as Renny shares,

“The story behind the video is that my grandmother wanted all her grandchildren to have a piece of art to remember her by. Instead of buying a piece, I found this amazing artist Lawren Alice and since I am a musician got her to paint my guitar! This way, not only do I have beautiful art to remember my grandmother, but I also have a great instrument to make beautiful music with as well. I was working on recording some songs at the same time, so I asked Lawren to record her painting the guitar to make a video time-lapse of it being painted with one of the songs. My grandmother passed away last month, but I was lucky enough to show her the finished guitar and play her a couple of songs.”

The band will play a music video release show at The Horseshoe Tavern in Toronto on the night of September 29, with fellow Toronto bands Accolades and The Jailbirds. Get your tickets here.

Care to introduce yourself to our readers?

I’m Renny Siento! A performer, musician, and captain of interplanetary funksmanship. Based in Toronto, I write music influenced by Stevie Wonder, Led Zeppelin, The Strokes, and Parliament Funkadelic.

The name Renny is what a close high school friend who passed away used to call me because he found it amusing to change the first letter of people’s names. I came across the word Siento in the final book of Stephen King’s Dark Tower series. It also means “I feel” in Spanish, which is very fitting because my music is about what I’m feeling.

Renny Siento Band consists of Miguel on drums, Josh on bass, and Matheus on guitar.

Tell us a bit about your most recent release.

My upcoming release is called “Underground” it was one of the last songs I wrote before the pandemic. It will be released on September 29 with a music video and be the final song of my 4-song EP. Produced by Phil Tessis of After Funk and recorded with members of After Funk as session musicians on the tracks.

Where do you tend to pull inspiration from when writing?

When writing, I like songs to come naturally to me. Better songs come when I don’t force it. Either a new tune gets stuck in my head, or I come up with a chord progression or riff that I can remember without writing down. Based on the energy and feel of the music, I write lyrics around a feeling, experience, or memory that makes me feel the same way.

The root of my inspiration comes from when any of us feels overwhelming joy or anger, and I, fortunately, can use music as an outlet. One interesting thing I noticed is that sorrow does not inspire me to write music. If anything, it makes me less inspired, and I avoid making music when sad. So, you won’t be hearing any sad songs at my shows!

Do you have any upcoming shows or festivals you’d like to tell us about?

Yes, we are playing the Horseshoe tavern on Thursday, Sept 29th! We will be with playing with Accolades and The Jailbirds. It’s going to be a party as we celebrate the release of our new song! The show starts at 8:30! We have some super fun new songs you can’t miss! Grab your tickets here.

Also, on October 28, there’s a Halloween party at Painted Lady!

What’s your goal for 2022?

We have more shows coming up throughout the rest of the year. Our 2022 goal is to make these shows so good and so fun that word of mouth spreads, and people will be asking us to play even more in new cities. At the same time, we’ll be gearing up for 2023 by applying to festivals and more fun things!
