SYRYN’s New Album Heads or Tails Tells Epic Tales of Mermaids, Sailors, and Pirates
It’s story time with Calgary, Canada’s Syryn, and their new album Heads or Tails, an epic record to take you on the high seas with mermaids, sailors, and pirates.
The band shares,
“This album was a blast to write! We’ve been holding on to these riffs for a long while, and hopefully, the anticipation is exactly what our fans were waiting for. We’ve got a mix of thrash, rock, metal, and ballads on this one. We are extremely proud of this album from all angles. The songwriting, lyrics, art, and production quality show the effort we put in. It’s something we know we’ll be proud of in the years to come.”
Syryn‘s sophomore album Heads or Tails is a record full of growth, diversity, and a much more collaborative effort as a whole compared to the band’s debut full-length “Beyond the Depths,” along with co-writing with guest vocalists Amanda Kiernan (ex-The Order of Chaos, ex-Into Eternity) and Craig Carswell (Producer, Singer /Songwriter, Dorians Mirror, Court of Cardinals). Head or Tails is more a themed album branching out into the Pirate/Sailor’s perspective and beyond. The band wanted to continue on the storytelling of a Siren’s journey, touching on as many aspects of it as they could fit onto the record (including the many emotions we go through in everyday life: Love, fear, anger, happiness, sadness, regret, etc.). Syryn also wanted to shake things up and create something a bit out of their regular musical realm, no two songs are alike, and that makes the band more difficult to categorize. They try to incorporate all their influences into their own sound with a wide array of styles to adhere to many people’s tastes.

Tell us a bit about your most recent release.
“Sink or Swim” is the newest single track off of our latest album, Heads or Tails! It’s an exciting exhibition of the band’s furious energy.
When it comes to the global pandemic, how are you keeping yourself out in the public eye while not being able to perform?
We try to keep up with both social media and physical social events. We find that keeping the community strong is what helps people stay updated. Luckily for us, our surrounding area has opened up for shows and events, so we are back in full force with shows every month! But it was tough beforehand with not having any shows to play or to attend. We’re glad we can go back out and see our friends and fans again!
Canadian Beats is all about Canadian music, so if you were able to work with ONE fellow Canadian artist, alive or dead, who would you choose?
Paulo – Danko Jones
Lyxx – Fefe Dobson
Bryan – Kataklysm
Byron – Devin Townsend
Sloan – Brittney Slayes
What’s your goal for the rest of 2022?
Paulo – Play as much as we can and get our new music out to everyone possible!
Lyxx – To tour! I want to play as many shows as possible every year. We’ve met one goal of having an album out before the end of the year, and now I can’t wait to play it.
Bryan – Book more shows and play more shows! And another album done would be nice.
Sloan – I would hope for a little more recognition for the band and growing our fan base. We would love to be able to travel outside of areas where we have already played and book some tours for 2023! Expanding our musical repertoire is always something to strive for as well.
