Steven Sware – Five Questions With

Steven Sware shares his new single, “New Romantics”

Edmonton’s Steven Sware is poised to become a recording artist and pop music stylist of note in the very near future. For Sware, it is the start of something special and something that will be as rewarding and fulfilling for him as it is for all who get to hear his music.

“New Romantics” is a cynical song about naive young lust, mistaken for love. At a young age, any type of connection can feel like true and utter love. Although it can be toxic and sex-fuelled, the slight hope of this type of relationship turning into something more masks the obvious imperfections. Cynically labeling any relationship as “New Romantics” because no one else has, understands, or supports your “love” pulls your mind deeper into this rabbit hole.

Listen to “New Romantics” below and find out more about Steven Sware via our Five Questions With segment.

Care to introduce yourself to our readers?

Hey Canadian Beats! My name is Steven Sware. I am a 26-year-old Pop artist from Edmonton, Alberta.

Tell us a bit about your most recent release.

My latest release is “New Romantics.” It is really a cynical song about naive young lust, mistaken for love.

Where do you tend to pull inspiration from when writing?

I feel like my writing inspiration can really come from anywhere. I am not one to have a notebook in handwriting daily. It seems to come sporadically but very strongly. A certain word, mood, or situation can spark a strong theme for a song that I write best to go off of. I love writing with others where I know my weaknesses can be filled by others’ strengths, and it gives the most well-rounded song.

Do you have any upcoming shows or festivals you’d like to tell us about?

My favourite part of music is performing. I’d much rather be on the road than in the studio. I play a ton of solo shows privately for different functions or at cafes, bars, etc. Since the beginning of Covid in 2020, I have only just started to perform again with my full band, which has been so exciting! Currently, my only large booking is my single release show for “New Romantics” on Sunday, September 18th, at The Rec Room on the Southside of Edmonton.

What’s your goal for 2022?

My goal for 2022 was to refocus on my original music: writing, releasing, and performing my originals and getting prepared to apply for larger shows and festivals, which has begun! I really want to continue strong for the rest of 2022. I would love to keep connecting with people and hopefully open for a larger artist on tour next spring and grow into performing a few festivals in 2023!
