Claire Coupland unveils “Love Song” from her forthcoming album

Canadian singer-songwriter, Claire Coupland, has released the first single, “Love Song,” off her sophomore album New Light, due out in early 2023.

“Love Song” is a spritely love letter that sits right in the pocket of California folk and Canadiana, written and performed on a shimmery high strung acoustic guitar. It takes listeners through a lush toe-tapping arrangement echoing bluegrass and country styles with dreamy harmonies, watery electric guitar, slick standup bass, and playful percussion.

Review

From the bubbly acoustic intro to the light-hearted vocal play throughout the track, “Love Song” is the perfect introduction to Claire’s upcoming release, New Light.

Although classed as folk and singer-songwriter genres, this track could fit under numerous headings, from country to folk to pop.

From the lyrics, “I wrote a love song just for you and planted it in the garden, I hoped one day that it would bloom, I’d find you nestled in the branches,” sung in Claire’s feathery yet powerful vocals to the instrumental harmonies, the track showcases not only her talent but also her ability to captivate the listener from beginning to end.

The track, which is now planted in my head, is a flawless example of what’s to come on Claire’s upcoming release, and I, for one, can’t wait to hear more.
