Zach’s Picks of the Week is back again!
It’s happening again; Music Monday always brings you new music! Of course, this week will be no different because you are here for Zach’s Picks Of The Week. I have hand-picked my five favourite articles and talented musical acts to feature in my segment. There are plenty of articles featured every week, but it’s much easier to give you five rather than a bunch. However, don’t let that stop you from visiting our main page to find more. The fantastic authors on our website work very hard every week to bring you the best in Canadian music.
In the video, we will feature clips from each recommended song and artist in this week’s picks. You can find the links to each of these articles below. So let’s get the show started and get into the new music.
Five
To start my list of new music, I bring us to St. Catharines singer/songwriter Casey Baker Neon Cowboy. You might recognize him if you followed the post-millennial Canadian music scene, working with City and Colour and even fronting the band Sleeper Set Sail. After a long hiatus, he has returned with his most evocative music yet.
His new single, “Where the Cattle Cross,” is now available on all streaming platforms and is also featured in one of our articles at Canadian Beats. You will be able to find the new single and a mini interview we had with Casey Baker here.
Four
So this weekend, PEI has an epic country music festival called Cavendish Beach Music Festival. Canadian Beats teamed up with the event to conduct interviews with some of the Canadian talents that will be performing.
We spoke with Newfoundland Americano-Country artist Chris Ryan. He was one of the eastern semi-finalists in the 2018 SiriusXM – Canadian Country Music Association ”Top of the Country” project. Since then, he’s released many singles, including his latest called “Less of a Stranger.” Find it now on all streaming platforms and in our article where we interviewed Mr. Ryan. Be sure to catch his performance on July 9th on the Kitchen Tide stage at Cavendish Beach Music Festival. Find out more in our post here.
Three
Making it into the top three, we have this brand new Five Questions With segment featuring dream-pop band ACER. The duo consists of multi-instrumentalist Kyle Gottschalk and vocalist/art director Connory Ballantyne. They recently unveiled their latest single, “Vacant,” to all streaming platforms, so add it to your playlist.
This new single offers a glimpse at singer Connory’s experience dating somebody after a truly crushing breakup. His experience of this restarting sparked reflection on the strangeness that he felt. Please visit the article with our Five Questions With segment featuring ACER and check out the video for “Vacant” here.
Two
This week‘s runner-up from my top spot will be the Canadian symphonic metal rockers Ophelia Falling. They have released the haunting new video for the title track off their LP, “Destroyed in Delight.” Find the whole album now on all streaming platforms and enjoy the cinematic video on our website. However, the track trades in themes of addiction, broken promises, domestic disputes, and violence, according to singer Chelsea Rose.
It’s a festival favourite song, and they will be heading out on the road performing this album, starting this month on the 16th. Check out the article and see the full video for “Destroyed in Delight” and a list of their upcoming dates here.
One
Our final spot in Zach’s Picks Of The Week is Toronto-based shoegaze/ indie rock duo Soft Set. They have returned with the brand new single titled “Diamond” and dropped a music video to accompany it. Please find it on all your favourite streaming platforms and save it to your playlist.
This new single follows up the release of “More More More” earlier this year. “Diamond” will be the second single coming off their upcoming album, Still Life, which should be coming out later this summer. Simon Scott mastered it at SPS mastering studio in the UK; this track takes inspiration from true crime documentaries and podcasts. Please go and check out this excellent video in our article here.
Well, I hope you enjoyed those recommended articles from our fantastic website. There was plenty more to be found on the main page, so head over and see what we got. However, please do me a favour and visit these articles I featured, because I really like them and I’m sure you will too. We will be back next Monday with a new batch of music for you to enjoy. So please tell a friend about us, and I’ll see you in the next article. PEACE, LOVE, AND GOOD MUSIC, EVERYONE!!
