Serena Ryder to headline Day 2 of Tim Horton’s Ottawa Dragon Boat Festival

Today and Tomorrow, Tim Horton’s Ottawa Dragon Boat Festival takes place in Ottawa, ON. We teamed up with the event to conduct interviews with some of the Canadian talent leading up to the big day. First off, we spoke with The Strumbellas, followed by Rebelle, then Stoby. Now, we’re chatting with Serena Ryder.

Canadian singer-songwriter, Serena Ryder is a well-known artist in the Canadian music scene. Her latest album, The Art of Falling Apart was released in 2021. Most recently she has unveiled a collaboration with Ria Mae entitled “The World Is Falling Apart,” as well as her recent single featuring William Prince, “Sing Me A Song.”

You can catch Serena Ryder on June 25 at 9:30 pm as she headlines the final day of music at Ottawa Dragon Boat Festival.

Check out the video for her single, “Used to You,” featuring Shawn Hook below, and find out more about Serena and her upcoming performance via our mini-interview.

First off, care to introduce yourself to our readers?

Hey readers!! My name is Serena Ryder, I’m from Millbrook, Ontario and I’m a singer, songwriter, and producer, and I’m stoked to be back playing live for you.

Tell us a bit about your newest release.

My latest album is The Art of Falling Apart. It’s kind of weird to say that because it was released in March 2021 but due to COVID I’m only really starting to tour it and promote it in a big way. The album chronicles my mental wellness journey and all the lessons I’ve learned along the way — particularly the importance of sitting with uncomfortable moments and the wisdom in their messages. I’m really opening myself up on this record and I hope it helps people on their own journeys. I’m also really proud to say the album recently won a JUNO last month for Adult Contemporary Album of the Year!

You’ll be playing Ottawa’s Dragon Boat Festival tomorrow, is this your first performance at the festival?

I’m so excited to be back in Ottawa.  I was recently visiting and now to be here playing at the Dragon Boat Festival is going to be so much fun. I can’t wait to be outside performing and hanging with all you wonderful people IN PERSON

What can attendees expect from your performance?

A LOT of energy :). Playing outdoor festivals in the summer air is one of my favourite things to do, and with each performance, I try my best to get the crowd singing, dancing, and smiling. We’re beautiful, the weather is beautiful, the music is beautiful, what’s not to love?

Besides performing, what are you most excited to check out at the festival?

I’m excited to hang out on the grounds and check out some of the races.

Do you have any other upcoming shows or festivals to tell us about?

Beginning in September, I’ll be making my way across the country for The Art of Falling Apart tour. It starts off in BC, and covers Alberta, Ontario, Nova Scotia, and more.  Full dates will be announced soon. Folks can find more info and buy tickets on my website.
