Queens & Kings are back with their new single, “Testify”

Toronto, ON-based rock duo Queens & Kings have unveiled their new single, “Testify.”

“”Testify” is a song about continuing to pursue your dreams and your purpose with passion and conviction, no matter what the risks or obstacles, because fulfilling and realizing that purpose is really why we are all here. It is the only thing we really have to lose. In many ways, this could be seen as a bit of an anthem for Queens & Kings as we have fought through so many obstacles just to keep going, no matter how many times life seemed to tell us to just give up.”

The duo, which consists of Alissa Klug and Brendan Albert, will be celebrating the release next weekend, June 25 – Black Swan Tavern and June 26 – Pedestrian Sundays in Kensington Market on the One Fire Movement stage.

Listen to “Testify” below, and find out more about Queens & Kings via our Five Questions With segment.

Care to introduce yourself to our readers?

We are Queens & Kings, a Toronto-based rock duo. The project started as a form of release and communication between us, so the audience gets a glimpse into our sometimes volatile dynamic complete with instrument swapping and multiple instruments playing at once when we aren’t in our main roles (Alissa on drums/vocals, Brendan on guitar/vocals).

With our inclusive stage show and raw, rock sound, the audience always responds and feels like they can just let it all go and be in the moment.

Tell us a bit about your most recent release.

Our latest release is called “Testify.” It’s a song basically about how we only have one life, and we should use it to fulfill our goals, dreams, and purpose and go after those things full-heartedly and with conviction. That is really why we are here. So we shouldn’t hesitate or live in fear and miss our chance to really be what we want to be while we’re still alive.

We have an official music video for the song coming out very soon, which we are very excited to share!

Where do you tend to pull inspiration from when writing?

Our songs generally come out of jams when rehearsing. One of us starts playing, and the other joins in, and we feed off each other’s creativity. Sometimes a few words will come out in the jam, and we’ll write the song based on that, or maybe we will eventually change the words to fit the rhythm of the melody as it progresses, but pretty much all of our songs are the product of just jamming and something sparking. We probably have hundreds of recorded song clip ideas to come!

Do you have any upcoming shows or festivals you’d like to tell us about?

We have a pretty stacked summer and fall coming up! We are ramping up for our album release, so we are playing a lot of not only local shows but Ontario and beyond this summer, including some festivals like Voodoo Rock Fest in Odessa, ON, which we will be playing on August 6, and Gussapolooza, which we’ll be playing on Sept. 18.

We will be sharing our album release date show soon enough, so people can check out our socials for that date, but our next local shows will be June 25 at the Black Swan and July 16 at the Hard Luck. We are working on our Canadian tour dates for Oct / Nov, where we’ll be heading out west, so if any bands want to connect on that, get in touch!

What’s your goal for 2022?

We’ll focus on putting out the rest of the album, touring it, and promoting it as much as possible because we are really proud of it! We’d like to tour Canada first, as mentioned, but we also really want to tour in places where we seem to have listeners, like parts of Latin America and Mexico. We aim to try and find ways to get our music heard as much as possible and continue working on songs for the next album. We already have some that we are quite proud of, so we are excited about what’s to come!
