Rick Christian unveils new single, “Emotionless”

Rick Christian’s new single will leave you “Emotionless”

Edmonton, AB-based Rick Christian is back with his new single, “Emotionless.”

The single follows his previous release, “Contagious,” which follows suit with a dark, haunting theme.

“Emotionless” is a true saga of an inward battle. A mental holy war that is a fight for light, staring deep into the eyes of an emotional cannibal. The eternal candle dims again while you stare at yourself, and the spiral begins. It seems as if Rick Christians’ voice echos into an unknown, and there will never be a response.

The song is also accompanied by a music video that delves into the supernatural. The meeting with a mystic figure reveals your emotionless existence has led to a disturbing fate. A session of tarot cards exposes the death card, two others, and a frightening realization. Upon waking, the question remains, an alarming dream or a distressing premonition?

Just as it seems Rick Christian could not deliver a song any darker, the new single emerges with combative honesty.

Watch the video for “Emotionless” below and learn more about Rick Christian via our mini-interview.

First off, care to introduce yourself to our readers?

I’m an Alternative/Electronic/Dark Dance artist from Edmonton, Alberta. I escaped from the depths below to spread my dark jams into your mind in an attempt to regain a soul.

I combine all the styles of music I enjoy when I write songs. I draw from Alternative and fuse it with synths and Electro. The beats will vary from Industrial, Electronica, and Dance. I have recorded songs with a standard drum kit from time to time.

You have unveiled your new single, “Emotionless” what can you tell us about the writing process and inspiration behind the single?

I knew what I wanted the song to be about. I also knew I wanted a hard Industrial drive to the song. I wrote from the beat and the bass line and built on top of that.

I have experienced many intense, dangerous situations in my life. Some were a matter of life and death. My response to these traumatic events is to take action and deal with the situation. It leaves me wondering why I have no emotional response and what is wrong with me.

The biggest hurdle in life is usually your mental state, mentality, and drive. Motivating yourself, taking on the world, and putting yourself out there can be very difficult. All these concepts come together in the new single.

You’ve also shared a music video to accompany the release. How did you come up with the idea for the video? What was the highlight of the shoot?

I wanted the video to dabble in something strange; a journey into the occult seemed perfect.

A meeting with a mystic figure reveals that your emotionless existence has led to a disturbing fate. A tarot card reading reveals a troubling future.

I was very happy that we captured the ominous lighting to complement the video’s vibe.
