Oakrest shares a new single, “Olivia”, with an accompanying music video

Toronto-based pop-rock band Oakrest has shared their brand new single, “Olivia,” along with a music video for the release.

With inspiration pulled from classics like Fountains of Wayne’s “Stacy’s Mom” and newer hits like Seaway‘s “Mrs. David.” “Olivia,” tells the story of carrying around an all-consuming crush and the adrenaline rush that comes with the thought of putting it into words.

“I hope this single helps listeners take that next step to tell their crushes how they really feel,” shares vocalist Jacob Szabo. “I also hope this single gets listeners dancing like no one’s watching.”

On top of this release, Oakrest has announced their upcoming album, Summer Sun, out July 8, 2022.

Care to introduce yourself to our readers?

Hi! My name is Jacob Szabo, I am 24 years old, and I’m the singer of Oakrest.

Tell us a bit about your most recent release.

Our most recent release was a single called “Olivia”, which was our last single on our upcoming record Summer Sun (coming out July 8th, 2022). Olivia is this character that played a huge role in my life, being my first major crush in my adolescents. The lyrics and concept of the song drew inspiration from pop-rock/pop-punk hits such as Stacy’s Mom by Fountains of Wayne, and Mrs. David by Seaway, both songs focusing on one person who they cannot get enough of. We also released this single with a music video by Savage Media Productions, which perfectly displayed what goes through a boy’s mind when they have a major crush on a girl (with a 50/60s theme to it).

Where do you tend to pull inspiration from when writing?

When I first started writing this record, I came up with the theme of “relationships” because I had just entered my first “Serious” relationship. So, after writing about all the bad times, and good times I’ve had in my life with relationships, I realized I never wrote about the very first crush I had on a girl. When I tackled this project, I have no clue why, but I wanted to simplify the HELL out of this song, and just write a corny pop song. Once the song was finished, I soon realized this was probably my favorite, and catchiest song I’ve ever written.

Do you have any upcoming shows or festivals you’d like to tell us about?

On July 22nd, we are headlining our first very Sneaky Dees show for the release of our record Summer Sun. As well, starting July 30th, we are embarking on an 8-day tour, which will go through cities such as Hamilton, London, Cambridge, Windsor, Barrie, Montreal, Oshawa, and Newmarket to promote the record. We are also starting to plan our fall /winter runs currently.

What’s your goal for 2022?

Our goal is as simple as this, make the world know who Oakrest is. We are hoping this record will open doors for us to bigger shows, new fans, and more success for Oakrest, as we risked a lot with this record and hope to have it pay off.
