Alex Krawczyk releases cathartic debut album, Le Olam
Alex Krawczyk, the Toronto-based folk singer-songwriter, released her debut album, Le Olam, back in February.
She began writing songs for Le Olam to help her heal from the traumatic loss of her parents. Penning songs like “Remember,” “Better Days,” and the previously mentioned “There Will Be Light” proved not only cathartic for her but also provided hope for her friends.
One of her friends shared that Alex’s songs were “healing my soul.”
With the help of her friends, namely songwriter Robbie Roth and Canadian vocalist Dione Taylor, Le Olam came to fruition.
Alex shares,
“I worked with Robbie Roth on this album. We have been writing songs together during the pandemic in 2020 and 2021. This album was recorded safely during the pandemic, with all of the artists recording individually, yet it has come together beautifully. I’m truly grateful for the many talented artists who were involved, including Dione Taylor, who is a very gifted Canadian singer.”

Care to introduce yourself to our readers?
Hi! My name is Alex Krawczyk. I was raised in Toronto. I currently live in Toronto, where I work as a community health nurse and a public health student in Indigenous Health. I have loved many different styles of music since I was a child, and I love expressing myself through singing and writing.
Tell us a bit about your most recent release.
Le Olam is my first release and was recorded during the pandemic and released in February 2022. Le Olam documents parts of my healing journey from tragedy, grief, and loss. I started writing songs with Robbie Roth in mid-2019, two and a half years after the traumatic loss of my parents. Songwriting and recording have been therapeutic for me in many ways, and I hope that my music will help bring comfort, hope, and healing to others who are struggling with trauma and loss.
When it comes to the global pandemic, how are you keeping yourself out in the public eye while not being able to perform?
I am quite shy about live performances, so I am not focused on performing just yet.
Canadian Beats is all about Canadian music, so if you were able to work with ONE fellow Canadian artist, alive or dead, who would you choose?
I would love to write and record songs with Neil Young! His Greendale album and tour were very influential to me when I was in high school.
What’s your goal for 2022?
My goal for 2022 is to continue focusing on healing and cultivating safety and peace for myself and my loved ones. I hope to continue working in community health and creating space to express myself creatively through songwriting. I also hope to begin recording a second album this summer.
