Mauvey, the Vancouver, BC / London, UK singer-songwriter recently unveiled “The King”, an uplifting, vibrant track with empowering prose about equality, respect, and the inherent value within us all.
“Throughout history ‘Kings’ (men) have been the most important people, the most protected people and the most respected people. I wanted to write a song tearing that apart. THE KING is a redistribution of power and respect to everyone, especially the immensely powerful women we have in our world.”
The video for “The King” was produced by Mauvey and co-directed by Mauvey and Andrew Huculiak. Breeanne Brereton stars as The King, while Mauvey takes the stage as The Martian.
“The King” is Mauvey’s first new single since his 2021 mixtape, The Florist, released on December 10 via 604 Records. The release marked Mauvey’s directorial debut with a short film, of the same title, accompanying the mixtape. Comprised of cinematic videos for standout tracks, The Florist can be watched here and listened to here.
