Metro Metro – Day 2
May 21, 2022
Montreal, QC
Metro Metro continues at Montreal’s Olympic stadium! If we thought Day 1 was hot and epic, we just didn’t know what was coming our way. From a 37° C heatwave to emergency storm warnings that ended up leaving us without a single drop of rain the whole day, the epic weather was quite similar to what happened on stage.
We started our day with some girl power, with the lovely Emma Beko, Naya Ali and Lakeyah. Harlem rapper Sheck Wes was supposed to be next, but the inclement weather delayed his flight. Luckily, he was able to make it on stage later in the evening for a shortened set! After a short DJ set to fill the gap (which happened to be when we had to shelter from the potential storm, perfect timing), French rapper Niska had the crowd singing Pouloulou with him. Polo G got the audience on fire, and Sheck Wes delayed set right after only made it combust even more! Texas rapper Don Toliver was the last to hit the stage before the main headliner.
We’ve checked out a lot of festivals through the years, and we’ve seen a lot of headlining sets. But Lil Baby‘s set was definitely in the best ones we’ve seen. He had a full stage setup, backup dancers, and all the pyro you could imagine. The crowd lost its mind the minute he came onstage, jumping and singing along to every lyric. If only they knew what was coming next, as during the track Wants and Needs, the one and only Drake walked on stage! In front of a completely frenzied audience, Drizzy gave a generous performance (his first in Montreal since 2018). He performed a couple songs with Lil Baby, and pleased the crowd with his classics Nonstop and Headlines. An epic way to close the night and second day of the festival.
