Marian, the New Brunswick-based four-piece unveiled their album, Hit Record on April 29, 2022.
“Hit Record is a love letter to all my favorite albums that grew from a listen, to interest, to obsession, and are now fundamentally a part of me,” said Marian’s Dylan Ward (he/him). “This LP is a sonic mixture, a full course listen, and a push to the fading ripple called rock n’ roll.”
The album was mixed with producer Joel Plaskett at Fang Recording in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia. While enlisting the help of someone the band considers a strong influence reads as a natural fit for this homage to influential albums, the collaboration came together under uniquely Maritime circumstances within that tightly knit musical community.
“Our fellow Frederictonian David Myles caught Marian’s set at last year’s FLOURISH Festival,” said Ward. “After graciously taking the time to meet with us and listen to the unfinished album, he personally reached out to Joel, suggesting he’d be a great fit to mix the record. We were thrilled and honestly in disbelief when Joel agreed, and even more so after arriving at Fang.”
The band has also shared the focus track for the album, “Astral Plane” along with a video to accompany the release.
“‘Astral Plane’ really encapsulates a lot of themes that can be found throughout the album,” he said. “It’s a rocking, yet melodic number; equal parts blustering energy and carefully crafted songsmenship. It’s a perfect first glimpse into our debut effort, Hit Record.”
