Ivytide, the Montreal-based indie-pop band has released their single, “extra“, which encapsulates the hardships that come from separation.
Despite an accompanying rumination, the song focuses on accepting loss and processing change, weaving between chill emotional, and upbeat energetic moments. The catchy chorus expresses the feeling of not knowing how to break the news to friends and family, with the line “all my friends will find me out.” Effortlessly blending singer-songwriter elements, like an acoustic guitar with modern drums, rapped verses, and melodies that are guaranteed to get stuck in your head, this is the first single from Ivytide’s upcoming debut album, set to be released later this year.
The band consists of Nathan Gagné (vocals/guitar), Jamie Snytte (guitar), and Kyle Ruggiero (bass). Combining their unique influences resulted in the production of bedroom pop songs with intricate, inviting melodies, which float on top of well-thought-out instrumentation. Drawing inspiration from creative RnB artists like Frank Ocean, and indie artists such as Still Woozy and Clairo, Ivytide developed their trademark indie pop sound.
