Five Questions With Mauvey

Vancouver, BC/ London, UK singer-songwriter, Mauvey has unveiled his new single, “The King”. It is an uplifting, vibrant track with empowering prose about equality, respect and the inherent value within us all.

This is Mauvey’s first release since his 2021 mixtape, The Florist, which was released on December 10, 2021, via 604 Records.

The Florist also marks Mauvey’s directorial debut of a short film of the same title accompanying the mixtape, comprised of cinematic videos for standout tracks. Watch The Florist HERE.

In March, Mauvey made his debut at SXSW 2022 in Austin, Texas, rocking several showcases. Now, on May 6, he will support fellow Vancourittes, Snotty Nose Rez Kids at Commodore Ballroom, then head to Lethridge, Alberta on May 7 for a show at Southern Alberta Art Gallery, then off to the UK before returning to Canada for a few festivals this Summer. See the dates below.

Care to introduce yourself to our readers?

Hi everyone, my name is Mauvey, it’s an absolute pleasure to be here.

Tell us a bit about your most recent release.

“THE KING”, is an empowering alt-pop anthem. Throughout history ‘Kings’ (men) have been the most important people, the most protected people, and the most respected people. I wanted to write a song tearing that apart. THE KING is a redistribution of power and respect to everyone, especially the immensely powerful women we have in our world.

When it comes to the global pandemic, how are you keeping yourself out in the public eye while not being able to perform?

During the pandemic, I kept myself busy by writing and recording. I supported other artists in the same position as me and encouraged my friends and fans. I didn’t focus on being present in the public eye, instead I worked on my craft, with hopes that when live music came back, I’d be ready.

Canadian Beats is all about Canadian music, so if you were able to work with ONE fellow Canadian artist, alive or dead, who would you choose?

If I could work with one Canadian artist, dead or alive, I would have to pick the Weeknd. The versatility, the theatre, the production value, the high level of creative excellence, he’s got it all.

What’s your goal for 2022?

My goal for 2022 is to distribute love to as many human beings as physically possible.
