Juno Award-nominated singer-songwriter, Desiree Dorion has recently shared her new single, “Wouldn’t That Be Fun”, which features Dave Wasyliw of Doc Walker. The single is a Country/Rock blended call and response about imagining what it’s like to be in the early stages of a relationship. After initially meeting at the 2019 Manitoba Country Music Awards, Desiree and Dave got together in the summer of 2021 to co-write. Yet as their three-hour songwriting session progressed, it was clear to them both that this song, in particular, needed to be a call and response style duet, requiring a second vocalist.
The young love, flirtatious song features a driving rhythm and the complementary vocals of the songwriters coming together during the chorus. Moving away from her biographical, storytelling focused songs, Desiree’s “Wouldn’t That Be Fun” is a cheerful, lively, and fun-loving tune taken from the imagination of the songwriters about what dating is like today – the things people would do, what they would say to their friends, and the butterflies-in-your-stomach excitement of whether the other person in the relationship feels the same way.
“This song is a fun-loving song about the uncertainty of a budding romance.” shares Desiree.

I am a singer/songwriter, a member of the Opaskwayak Cree Nation and I make my home in Dauphin.
Tell us a bit about your most recent release.
I met Dave Wasyliw at an after-party for the Manitoba Country Music Awards. He had been on my radar for awhile as someone I wanted to write with. We are standing around with some friends and I finally worked up the nerve to ask him to co-write with me. He didn’t hesitate and said ‘absolutely!’. We emailed back and forth afterward trying to lock in a date to co-write. But, our timing was off and we just didn’t find the time. In July/August 2021, he reached out to me on Facebook and said we needed to follow through on our drunk talk. I happened to be in the city quite a bit last summer, so we locked in a day. As this song evolved, we realized quickly that it was a duet. I didn’t know though at the time who I was going to sing it with. Shortly after our co-write, Dave sent me a demo and I knew when I heard his voice on this track that he should be my duet partner! So, what started as a co-write naturally evolved into this fun collaboration.
When it comes to the global pandemic, how are you keeping yourself out in the public eye while not being able to perform?
The restrictions started to lift in Manitoba in the summer of 2021. I hit the ground running and worked as much as I possibly could. I played festivals, events, toured Manitoba, and did some online stuff. But, by the summer of 2021, I was pretty tired of performing online. It is really challenging to connect with an audience that you can’t see or feel and it felt amazing to get back on stage and share music with real people in the real world!
Canadian Beats is all about Canadian music, so if you were able to work with ONE fellow Canadian artist, alive or dead, who would you choose?
Hands down, Shania Twain.
What’s your goal for 2022?
I have a bunch of fun shows booked for the summer. My goal is to bring the best live show I can possibly bring.
