Toronto, ON-based alt-country artist, Meredith Lazowski is set to release her new single, “Other Way Home” tomorrow (April 8, 2022), but we have an early listen ready for all of you!
This is the second single and title track from her upcoming album, Other Way Home to be released on June 17, 2022.
A soulful and bluesy take on country, “Other Way” carefully intertwines tasteful blues guitar licks, lush organ, and a heavy sauntering rhythm section tucked under Lazowski’s smooth and sultry vocals. With the bittersweet opening line, “I hope you’re riding the other way home, Cuz you ain’t riding next to me no more” Lazowski explores finding power in moving forward – in life and relationships:
“From the early phases of this song, I wanted to have a feeling of strength and power.” Lazowski explains, “The lyrics came shortly after and were inspired by the guitar feeling of motion and movement, almost the rhythm of walking. At this time I wanted to express a feeling of empowerment to make the sometimes difficult decision of if certain people still fit in your life. This was a time when I was starting to take charge and decide who was important to me and who was worth investing more of my time for.
—- Visually, I see myself and that person walking in the middle of the road and that other person possibly taking another route because they no longer fit along the life path I am taking. The song has a walking momentum, symbolized on the album’s cover with the inverted or meandering map, symbolizing the ebb and flow of relationships lost and found in our life’s journey.”
The single was recorded at Union Sound in Toronto, with producer Justin Rutledge and recording engineer, Chris Stringer. On top of this, Meredith enlisted Ontario’s talents Joshua Van Tassel on drums, Kelsey McNulty on organ, Tom Juhas on electric guitar, and Devon Henderson on bass.
