Alberta’s Siksika Nation band, Double Rider have unveiled their new single, “Echoes of The Past”, which speaks of the history and everlasting spirit of the Siksika (Blackfoot) people. Guided by a soft jam rock, the song is as much of a history lesson as it is a resonating 70s ballad.
“Echoes of the Past” was written by Matthew Many Heads—the late grandfather of Double Rider (Hannah and Lennon Owlchild, and Erin Manyheads). Matthew Manyheads was a residential school survivor of nine years, leading him to express his passions, sorrows, etc., through music.
Though the song was written a number of years ago, it finds new, youthful life as a single, and on Double Rider’s anticipated self-titled debut EP.
“Our grandfather gave us his songs and his music as gifts,” Double Rider says. These gifts are full of stories and speak about love and loss; the history of our people and the present day.”
