Care to introduce yourself to our readers?

Hello Canadian Beats, my name is Jordan Speare. I am from Hamilton, ON and I am the main singer/songwriter of indie duo Burn The Louvre.

Tell us a bit about your music and writing style.

We just released our new single “Wish We Were”, which is part of an 11 song LP called Silhouettes. We’re releasing Silhouettes 1 song per month for 11 months. “Wish We Were” is a fun, upbeat song that I had written for my first girlfriend when we were both 24 years old. The basic premise of the song is: “wouldn’t it be great if I had met you sooner?”. Well, sure, but life is rarely that linear. I wrote this song about celebrating the present and looking forward to the future instead of longing for a past that never was. All that we can do is try to make the most of the time we’re given with that person, however long that may be.

How have you been keeping creative during the Pandemic?

Well, I was temporarily laid off of work for almost 2 months near the very beginning of this. I just looked at it as a great opportunity to take advantage of all this free time I’m never getting back. I took some online music business-related courses, some online guitar courses, tried to learn more about recording & audio/video editing, I was going running + hiking a lot (before the cold weather arrived) to try to clear my head, I definitely did some writing over the past couple years. I’ve been trying to get a lot of practice in…Sean and I have been getting together at least once a week for the past 2 years, so the pandemic didn’t disrupt that TOO much…although there were a couple months here or there where because of lockdowns and restrictions band practice was a little less frequent, of course.

If you were asked to suggest only one of your songs for someone to hear, which would it be?

Without question, it would be our newest single “Wish We Were”. Not to be cliché and plug the new song, but I honestly believe that this is easily the best thing that we’ve ever released.

Canadian Beats is all about Canadian music, so who are your current favourite Canadian bands/ artists?

I love this question. Honestly, all of my current favourites are fellow Hamiltonians! We’ve got an excellent music scene down here. Heather Valley is my favourite singer/songwriter. She’s the total package: the way she sings, the way she plays, the words she writes, her music is just so beautiful. A couple new favourites who I’ve been digging are The Bleeding Idahos, they’ve got a couple rock n’ roll singles out that are really hot and Lifeandthetribe! One of my new favourites for sure, some of her songs sound like they could be R&B classics, they are that good. And Silvertone Hills is another Hamilton band I really love. My friend Andrew Billone actually played all the lead guitar and bass on our new single “Wish We Were”, so definitely check his band out if you dig the sounds on our song.
