Care to introduce yourself to our readers?

My name is Sabrina Sapal and I am a Canadian and American recording artist and singer-songwriter. I sing and write songs of many genres, but not limited to EDM, World, and Fusion genres. I base a lot of my songwriting on personal life experiences and my colorful imagination. I also love composing melodies for my songs. My heritage is Indian, so I sometimes love incorporating Eastern music elements into my work.

Tell us a bit about your music and writing style.

I write whatever comes to my mind as soon as I sit down at my desk during the quiet night while everyone’s asleep. I love sad songs, not necessarily because I feel sad, but I enjoy singing, writing, and composing sad songs, particularly ballads because I love the musical melodies and the vibe of sad songs even while being happy in life. When I write EDM songs, they mostly have to do with a playful type of “in love” feeling. When composing South Asian music, I primarily compose Pop and commercial songs. I love to fuse Western and Eastern music together, for example in my song ‘Maharaja.’

How have you been keeping creative during the Pandemic?

I have been writing, composing, and producing music in my team. I have been making music independently and also collaborating with other artists as well. I feel I’m blessed to be brought up in an era that has technology so I can virtually work with anyone for music on mediums such as Zoom and connect with other artists on social media platforms. The only thing I’m missing is live performances during the pandemic which have been on and off for safety reasons.

If you were asked to suggest only one of your songs for someone to hear, which would it be?

Maharaja.

Canadian Beats is all about Canadian music, so who are your current favourite Canadian bands/ artists?

Drake, The Weeknd, Justin Bieber, Shawn Mendes, Michael Bublé, and Celine Dion. I also heard some awesome local bands often in Peterborough at local bars during the summer.
