Vancouver, BC-based R&B/ hip-hop musician Babylung has unveiled his newest single, “Nothing To Be Said” from his upcoming album, To Live And Die In Surrey, which is set for release on July 30, 2021.
“I wrote ‘Nothing To Be Said’ when I came home to Surrey during the beginning of the pandemic,” says Babylung. “I realized I wasn’t going back to the UK and I couldn’t keep running from my dark past as an at-risk youth. We all face inner demons that hold us back from our destiny, but once we overcome them, there’s nothing to be said, only a purpose to fulfill.”
Babylung enlisted Toronto musician Patrik Kabongo to assist with Nothing To Be Said, a collaboration that was long overdue.
Says Babylung:
“I knew his tone was a perfect contrast and his story would connect. I sent it over and within a week he had a verse for me; he delivered.”

Care to introduce yourself to our readers?
I’m Babylung, I’m born and raised in Surrey, BC. I love creating stories built around my life experiences growing up as a troubled youth and finding myself after pursuing music. I lived in Toronto and Scotland for the past three years writing and studying music, and now I’m back home in Surrey ready to release my album which talks all about it.
Tell us a bit about your music and writing style.
My music is very unapologetically me. As a youth, I was very rebellious and while I’m a responsible young adult now, I still find myself rebelling creatively. I mix sounds you traditionally wouldn’t hear together like orchestral strings & 808’s, I’m fearlessly vulnerable in my lyrics, and I take unexpected creative turns that leave you on your toes. Pretty much what I’ve been doing my whole life.
How have you been keeping creative during the Pandemic?
During the pandemic, I moved back into my parent’s home where they have many different instruments. I come from a family of church musicians so I kept creative by picking up instruments lying around the house, experimenting with them, and jamming with my sister, just like what I did when I was growing up. I bought some home recording equipment and began writing, and now here I am with an entire project recorded!
If you were asked to suggest only one of your songs for someone to hear, which would it be?
I would suggest listening to my upcoming single “Nothing To Be Said” which comes out on July 9th. This song captures what life was like for me throughout these past 3 years. Realization of purpose, and the fierce pursuit of it. Leaving old habits and friends, and discovering my new identity.
Canadian Beats is all about Canadian music, so who are your current favourite Canadian bands/ artists?
So many great superstars I love from Canada like The Weekend, Daniel Caesar, Justin Bieber, and also some amazing rising artists like Mustafa, Elko, and the guys at The Ave Records.
