Review – Justin Nozuka

Album: then, now & again
Release Date: April 9, 2021
Genre: R&B/ Soul

Then, now and again is the latest release by Toronto-based artist Justin Nozuka.

If Justin Timberlake and Bruno Mars had a love child, that would describe this man’s music and voice. Musically it harkens back to the influences of artists such as Lauryn Hill and other nostalgic R&B classics from the early ’90s-’00s while also having an injection of 1970’s themes and sounds of heartbreak. The themes that are present in this EP delve into leaving a relationship while still loving the person to eventually finding someone to spend the rest of their life with.

Standout tracks for me include “Break Me” which has the vocal combination of the artists mentioned above with the sweetness of tracks like “Mirrors” by Justin Timberlake. Each track flows nicely together; it’s a good record for both a chill and romantic setting but also a good soundtrack to vibe to with friends.

Overall, this release continues to grow on me with each listen. When I feel stressed this is the perfect comedown record that I would put on to fall asleep to and it would fit perfectly on my chill playlist.
