Five Questions With Olivia Rose

Elk Point, Alberta-born country artist, Olivia Rose has unveiled her newest single, “Gold”, along with an animated lyric video for the release, created by NotYourDesigner.

Produced by CCMA award-winning producer Bart McKay and written by Olivia Rose and David Borys, “Gold” explores the “solid gold” connection that one can form with a true best friend and partner. “Gold” is the first new music from Olivia since 2019’s single, “Put It Like That”, which has earned almost 120,000 Spotify streams to date and was added to regular rotation on CBC Country (Sirius XM).

In speaking about the new track, Olivia Rose says,

“I’m not going to lie – my own dating history has led me to write my fair share of sad break-up songs. With David, we went in the opposite direction by starting at the beginning of a relationship instead of at the end, and we came out of it with something happy and upbeat.”

Far from a lavish sonic exploration of a high-rolling romantic adventure, the heart of Olivia Rose’s lyrics is really a nod to the “solid gold” connection that one can form with a true best friend and partner.

She says,

“I want people to sing this at the top of their lungs in the car with the windows down. Having that perfect match in your life is such a rush and I wanted to capture and celebrate the spirit of that feeling in the lyrics and flow of the song.”

Care to introduce yourself to our readers?

Hey everyone! My name is Olivia Rose and I am a 21-year-old country artist and songwriter! I was born and raised in the small town of Elk Point, Alberta.

Tell us a bit about your music and writing style.

Something I really love about writing in the country music genre is that storytelling is always at the base of my songs. Before I write a song, I figure out who it’s about, what they’re feeling or going through, and what they want to say about it! I really like to write songs that have truth to them and that people can connect to in their own ways.

Do you have any upcoming shows? For someone who has yet to see you live, how would you explain your live performance?

Unfortunately here in Alberta, live performances aren’t allowed, yet but I do have some online shows coming up! My shows are a mix of covers and original music! I absolutely love playing the songs I write and telling the stories behind them.

If you were asked to suggest only one of your songs for someone to hear, which would it be?

I would honestly have to suggest my new single “Gold”! It’s a fun, upbeat, no-strings-attached love song and I think it’s absolutely perfect for blasting in your car with the windows down for summer! I am also super stoked about my upcoming music. My songwriting abilities have grown SO much throughout this pandemic and I cannot wait to get in the studio and start recording what I’ve been working on!

Canadian Beats is all about Canadian music, so who are your current favourite Canadian bands/artists?

I’d have to say my top Canadian artists/bands right would have to be Scenic Route to Alaska, Mackenzie Porter, Tenille Arts, and Dean Brody!
