Care to introduce yourself to our readers?

Hey! my name is Allanah Jeffreys and I’m a singer/ songwriter from Winnipeg Manitoba. I’m 17 years old and come from a very musical family and perform frequently with my brother Jaiden. Music has always been a huge part of my life and songwriting has been a way for me to express myself and has helped me through a lot. I have 5 songs out on all streaming platforms the most recent being “Alone” which just came out on February 19th!

Tell us a bit about your music and writing style.

I have been writing songs for as long as I can remember but I only started taking it seriously when I was 14. My first 3 releases “I’ll be me”, “Loyalty”, and “Better Place”, came together so fast and took me by surprise. The amount of support I’ve received from the very beginning has been overwhelming and I’m so grateful. When it comes to my writing style, I don’t have a set formula. Sometimes I write lyrics first, while other times I write a chord progression and come up with a melody second. The only consistent thing is my use of voice memos, which I have way too many of them haha

How have you been keeping creative during the Pandemic?

The Pandemic has definitely been hard for me and for the rest of us. Without the ability to play live shows, I’ve been focusing more on creating and writing new music. I would say that I write more frequently now and I have learnt a lot about myself through this experience. I always try to see the positive in things and every event serves a purpose in our lives. But when the stage is up and running again I won’t be holding back.

If you were asked to suggest only one of your songs for someone to hear, which would it be?

That’s a really hard question, I feel like my identity as an artist and as a person is ever-changing and you can hear that through my music. My newest single “Alone” is a new direction that my music is taking and I think it best fits with who I am at the moment.

Canadian Beats is all about Canadian music, so who are your current favourite Canadian bands/ artists?

I grew up being a huge Shania Twain fan but currently, my favourite Canadian artists are The Weeknd, Alessia Cara, Olivia Lunny and Faouzia.
