Five Questions With Rod Black

Vancouver, BC-based country music phenom, Rod Black has recently released his new single, “Barely Gettin’ By” – a tune with which he paired up with Producer/Writer Jeff Johnson to create.

Give “Barely Gettin’ By” a listen, and find out more about Rod via our Five Questions With segment.

Tell us a bit about your music and writing style.

I grew up in a rodeo family, country music was always played in our household along with rock ‘n’ roll.

My songwriting is definitely a mix of the two genres that have inspired me throughout the years.

I feel if you write from the heart you can’t go wrong.

Do you have any upcoming shows?

No shows just yet, obviously due to Covid restrictions we all have to be very careful moving forward. When the right time comes I’ll be ready to hit the stage again..

For someone who has yet to see you live, how would you explain your live performance?

Definitely a lot of energy in the show, I like to mix it up. Country & rock ‘n’ roll & hopefully inspire others along the way.

If you were asked to suggest only one of your songs for someone to hear, which would it be?

“Keepin’ On” for sure, there’s something special about that one, a song about not giving up & weathering the storm at any cost.

Canadian Beats is all about Canadian music, so who are your current favourite Canadian bands/ artists?

Madeline Merlo, Chris Buck, Sons Of Daughters, Wes Mack, Hillside Outlaws, Kadoo, Dallas Smith, Tj Miller, Amy Nelson, Tim Hicks, Tebey & the list goes on I have mad respect for all Canadian artists in general, after all, we’re all in this together…
