Five Questions With Les Shirley

Montreal, QC-based power trio, Les Shirley has unveiled their brand new single, “Fuck It I’m In Love”, and have also announced their debut album, Forever Is Now, will be released on  March 19, 2021.

This new track is a sort of timeless hymn driven by the flaring guitar that leads a melodious path from start to finish. Les Shirley barrows the essence of emblematic punk rock songs from the 2000s era, with the mixe and matches power chords, the backing vocals harmonics, and on which the verses are carried by the steady bassline and the constant drumroll cringing until the chorus jumps right at you like a jack in the box.

This song is the most emblematic of the 2000’s punk rock era on the album. It’s about love at first sight, this instant connection with someone else, the feeling that everything is as it should be in the right timing. Making the painful realization that you’re falling and losing control but choosing to let go. F*ck it, I’m in love.”

Care to introduce yourself to our readers?

Hi, we are Les Shirley, a Montreal based rock power trio that wants to bring back the 2000’s. We are out to slay and set the stage on fire.

Tell us a bit about your music and writing style.

Drenched in early 2000’s pop culture, our sound is shaped by our punk rock teenage years and the women we became today, karaokeing our nights away to pop anthems (from Avril Lavigne to Céline Dion). We craft catchy melodies with layers of harmonies on top of raw rock riffs. We are a team and we do everything together, our friendship is at the center of our art and it shows live on stage. We just have a sh*t load of fun.

Do you have any upcoming shows? For someone who has yet to see you live, how would you explain your live performance?

Unfortunately, with the COVID situation, we don’t have any upcoming live shows but we never know. We just shred on stage, we have fun, it’s like a house party with a dance floor full of your besties, on fire (fire).

If you were asked to suggest only one of your songs for someone to hear, which would it be?

Fuck it I’m in love. It’s a good way to introduce our sound to fresh ears. It’s straight to the point, brings you home, catchy, punk, bold with a great guitar solo.

Canadian Beats is all about Canadian music, so who are your current favourite Canadian bands/artists?

PUP for sure, very impressed by their sound. Also, shout out to two of our favorite bands from our hometown : Les Deuxluxes (shred) and Mon Doux Saigneur. <3
