Care to introduce yourself to our readers?

My name is Paul Fitzpatrick, I am a country music Indie Artist on the East Coast of Canada. Currently living in St John’s, Newfoundland but originally from a small town called Jean-De-Baie. I grew up around a large immediate family where music was a huge part of everything we did, many family members played the guitar and other instruments, including my Dad where I would hear him playing and singing as far back as I can remember. I then started playing his guitar, learning from watching him, I am a self-taught musician, it is super important to my life and I cannot imagine a day where music doesn’t exist. Now I am a single dad to the most amazing little man ever and to see the love of music in him develop more and more each day at the age of 5 is a proud thing to watch blossom. I do it for my love of own music as well as for my son to experience and feel what it’s like to have that type of love/connection. Music heals the soul.

Tell us a bit about your music and writing style.

This may sound cliché but my writing style is focused on things I have experienced in my past, the hard times I have been through as well as the great things that have come out of them. Past relationships, loss, the sad things, however, I have also been very blessed to have become a dad, this is the proudest moment of my life and in sharing how this makes me feel in my music helps others relate. Whether you are a dad or a mom you can understand the love for a child.

Additionally, I love to immerse myself in emotion, to put myself in other’s shoes, to write about things of how they would feel, certain times in their lives, their point of views to help people understand them.

I have two singles released in 2020, they are called “Home” and Brighter Days”.

“Home” is a song I wrote a few years ago, it’s about growing up in a small town and what it’s like to go back years later after you have moved away. The familiar things that are there as well as how things have changed over time however it is still home that is filled with lots of great memories.

“Brighter Days” is a very personal song for me about a hard time in my life where I wasn’t sure how I was going to fix it or change it. Then suddenly everything turnaround when I had my son and things made sense and finally had a purpose. This is the theme of the song, even though people may be having a rough time there is always hope and things will work out, just have hope. A theme song for 2020 for sure.

I have many other originals written, one of my favourites and next to be released will be a tune called “Just a Dad”.

Do you have any upcoming shows? For someone who has yet to see you live, how would you explain your live performance?

Currently, in the midst of the pandemic, it is very difficult or near impossible to perform any live events such as concerts or festivals. However, I do have an active Facebook Page where I do many posts of my original songs as well as covers. I also do many live shows there as well so please feel free to check out my page, like and follow to be notified of any live events that is happening. Check out Paul Fitz Music on Facebook.

In my live shows, I try to be very interactive, chatting with the viewers, laughing, joking, taking requests, anything to just have a great time. To me, that is what music is all about, having fun and enjoying yourself whether you’re a listener or a performer.

During this pandemic, I have used the time to play more music, hear more music and of course with all the extra time I have also been writing more. Although the music industry has taken a huge blow for live in-person experiences I have found some positive in these times, making music, making connections through the explosion of the online music and just making more music connections/friends even if it has to be online or virtual for now.

If you were asked to suggest only one of your songs for someone to hear, which would it be?

As mentioned above you can check out my released singles on all the digital media platforms. The one song that I would suggest listening to first would be “Brighter Days”. Not only is this a fitting song for someone going through a tough time in a relationship but it’s also a very fitting message for one of the toughest years we all as a human race has gone through in a very long time, it’s about hope, staying strong and that brighter days will come.

Canadian Beats is all about Canadian music, so who are your current favourite Canadian bands/ artists?

My favourite band to listen to since I was a kid is Blue Rodeo, those guys, in my opinion, the best Canadian band to ever take the stage. Jim Cuddy just has a way of delivering the songs he sings that just draws you in and you have no choice but to pay attention. I would absolutely love to work with him one of these days and write a song with him. Hope you see this Jim, my friend, lol.
