Five Questions With Auresia

Multi-award winning/ nominated World-Music Ukrainian-Canadian tropical artist, Auresia has released her fourth album, Korinnya, into the world. Korinnya (meaning “roots” in Ukrainian) combines her love for roots reggae music, with that of her roots and heritage.

It was recorded, mixed, and mastered at some of the top studios; including Shpytal Records(who produced songs by Jamala) in Ternopil, Ukraine, Zvuko Tsekin Kyiv, Ukraine, in Havana, Cuba with Carlos Rafael “Mozart” and mixed and mastered in Canada with stalwart musical engineers TQ (Francis Hudson) @Penthouse Sound & Ryan Morey @ Ryebread Mastering. Featuring some of Ukraine’s top musicians-Roman Kucherenko (Sunsay) on bass guitar, Denis Shvets on drums, and Marina Krut (Eurovision & X-Factorsemi-finalist) on bandura, Korinnya artistically expresses Auresia’s love for traditional Ukrainian instruments and creatively intertwines sweet pop melodies with deep tropical roots grooves.

Care to introduce yourself to our readers?

Hello, Salut, Pryvit! My name is Auresia (pronounced like O-resh-ah) and I am a world music inspired artist, mostly in love with tropical beats like roots reggae, salsa, and variations of that. My parents are Ukrainian but I grew up out west, and currently been living on the lovely island of Montreal for the past decade!

Tell us a bit about your music and writing style.

I love tropical and world beat rhythms and soulful music. My new album, Korinnya”, which is my 4th LP  actually drops today on Friday, November 6th, and is an inspiration between my love for roots reggae music and my ethnic roots and culture from Ukraine. Combining sounds of Ukrainian traditional instruments such as Bandura (65 string) and Cimbalom (Dulcimer) with the bass and drums of heavy roots reggae grooves, it is a combination of my love for roots reggae music with the inspiration of my roots and culture in Ukraine.

Do you have any upcoming shows? For someone who has yet to see you live, how would you explain your live performance?

MY CD RELEASE SHOW is online on Friday, November 6th at 5 pm PST! Here is the link. You can also check me out live at www.facebook.com/auresia and or www.Instagram.com/auresia. I will be showcasing my new songs from the album with my bandura!

If you were asked to suggest only one of your songs for someone to hear, which would it be?

I would say my song – Korinnya / Raices (meaning “roots” in Ukrainian/Spanish). It’s one of my more mellow acoustic songs, but one of my favorites; and I actually filmed a music video with the Ukrainian bandura in it in Ukraine. It’s on my Youtube channel.

Canadian Beats is all about Canadian music, so who are your current favorite Canadian bands/ artists?

Ohh yes so many! I love Lhasa, The Steadies, Dan Fyah Beats, Tanya Nielsen, Ammoye, Soul, Nomadic Massive, Trabuco Habanero to name a few!
