Five Questions With Andrew Cassara

Ottawa, ON-based pop dynamo Andrew Cassara has released a video for his newest single, “Shock” which is Part Two in a double release, following “Fingertips“. The tracks are from Andrew’s upcoming Fall 2020 release, Freak On Repeat (Deluxe Version).

“This is probably one of my all-time favourite songs I’ve written to this very day,” Cassara shares. “I’m always pushing myself to try writing and singing what feels right for the song while also pushing myself out of my comfort zone to try something new.

“‘Shock’ did just that for me.

“When I was writing it,” he continues, “funnily enough I couldn’t help but picture myself in the movie Grease in the role of ‘Danny’ singing this song… It’s a feel-good song, and its a creation I want people to get off their feet for, to dance to and have the time of their life with.

“There’s just this energy that rushes through me whenever I hear it.”

Care to introduce yourself to our readers?

Hi, my name is Andrew Cassara, I’m a Pop artist from Ottawa, Canada.

Tell us a bit about your music and writing style.

Yeah for sure! I’d say my style is mainly pop but involving some fusion of disco & funk with some overtones of rock in there. I’ve been working these past few years on really finding my groove when it comes to my sound. With the release of the debut album, I’m really confident and happy about where I stand with the music I’m making. It’s a style that I want to keep moving forward with and I’d love to take it even further and branch off into many more different retro subgenres and experiment to keep things fresh!

Do you have any upcoming shows? For someone who has yet to see you live, how would you explain your live performance?

For the moment, there has been no shortage of live-stream performances, we’ve been really busy doing online shows such as the KMC Festival in Kansai, Japan, and MONDO in New York City, USA but we don’t have any physical live shows announced due to the ongoing pandemic. We were originally planning on touring Asia this fall but we have canceled all tours for the foreseeable future to assure the safety of all the fans, staff, and members of our team. We will assess the situation carefully and will make show announcements when it’s safe to do so.

If you were asked to suggest only one of your songs for someone to hear, which would it be?

I would definitely suggest Bad Bad! It’s definitely one of my favorite songs off the record and I think it does a great job painting the picture of what kind of artist. Plus, I can’t help but get on my feet and move when I hear the track, it makes me want to dance! That being said I’d also like to mention that I did just release my latest single “Shock” with an accompanying music video and it has a similar retro vibe to it that I really enjoy so I would recommend that song next!

Canadian Beats is all about Canadian music, so who are your current favorite Canadian bands/ artists?

There’s so much amazing Canadian talent out there it’s incredible, I’m really proud of it. Without a doubt I would say for sure Shawn Mendes, I look up to him a lot. He’s so talented! Also, The Weeknd, his newest album blew my mind. SO GOOD.
