Don Amero, who hails from Transcona (Winnipeg), Manitoba, is a three-time JUNO Award nominee, a multiple Manitoba Country Music Association award winner, a part of the MDM Recordings Inc. team, and most importantly, a man who is a great husband and dad. He’s a stellar singer-songwriter who has that ever so rare storytelling ability that can keep his audience captivated for hours. He effortlessly and genuinely connects with them. Amero, who is of Cree and Metis heritage, has been recognized for his work as an amplifier of Indigenous thought and ideas and hopes to continue the work being done when it comes to building bridges between all communities in Canada. All this is what makes Amero unique in this industry.
On September 4, Amero released his single “Wasn’t the Dress” on all digital platforms. It’s the latest single from his September 25 EP release The Next Chapter. This upbeat love song, written by Corey Crowder, Michael Hobby, and Jared Mullins, is a toe-tapping, dance in your chair (or car) and sing along at the top of your lungs one. It’s a major one for Amero; he ventured outside of the kind of tunes he’s delivered previously. This is a song that country radio across Canada is waiting for.
In an exclusive with Canadian Beats, Amero says of “Wasn’t the Dress,”
“This song really spoke to me because it says that it’s not about your looks or what you put on that makes you beautiful, true beauty is on the inside. This is also the first real jam song I’ve released to the country world for quite some time. This is a great song to dance to. Some even said that this will be a great song for a wedding and I loved the sound of that!”
The fall of 2020 has also proven to be a great one for Amero. He’s currently a semi-finalist in the 2020 Siriusxm Top Of The Country Competition and just this week, he was announced as a performer on the 2020 CCMA Awards broadcast airing Sunday, September 27 on Global.
“Wasn’t the Dress” is a tune that you should have on your favourite playlist, download, and share with everyone. As Amero also says, “music is great alone but sometimes better with friends.”

Hi all. I’m Nanci Dagg. I am from Winnipeg, Manitoba, and have lived my entire life here. There is nothing I like better than supporting local artists followed by supporting Canadian artists. Although I was a classic rock gal, my go to genre is country. Something about this music that just makes me feel great. I can be found at most country music concerts and shows (from someone’s house to really large venues) taking lots of pictures. Music and photography are two of my passions. Add to this mix, writing about artists, well let’s say, life doesn’t get better than this.
