Fresh from the release of her brilliant fourth album HiRUDiN back in May, Austra (aka Katie Austra Stelmanis), today shares the new video for “I Am Not Waiting” directed by the incredibly talented Trevor Blumas and starring Sheida Arbabian. On “I Am Not Waiting”, over ESG-style basslines, Stelmanis’ voice cuts through like a beacon singing the refrain ‘I’m over you’ repeatedly.
“Trevor and I have been collaborating for a while now on a few different projects so he’s got a really good understanding of the themes across HiRUDiN and ‘I Am Not Waiting’ in particular,” she continues “Given the limitations we were faced with because of Corona, I letz him have free reign to do what he wanted here. I’m thrilled with the result, it’s so nice collaborating with someone you can fully trust to represent your work.”
“The video for ‘I Am Not Waiting’ takes a cue from Katie’s lyrics about escaping from a toxic situation and reaching a point where enough is enough. The video specifically is about breaking free from the layers of superficiality that is often applied to or imprinted upon us in today’s hyper-image culture, in the age of face apps and AR. These devices often skew us from seeing each other for who we actually are. I find there is an exceptional amount of bravery and boldness in stepping outside of certain social expectations of how we present ourselves by being seen as vulnerable and exposed.”
Hey there! I’m Zach I love long walks on the beach and movies that make you cry. Wait a minute this isn’t my E-Harmony account. Let’s try this again, hi I’m Zach from Dawson Creek, BC. Before you think it, no it’s not like the TV show! I have loved music ever since I was a kid back in Abbotsford, BC where I was born. Moved up north when I was about six and was practically raised up here. Hands down one of my favorite Canadian band has to be Simple Plan, with Dallas Smith coming in second. One of my Favorite Things I enjoy doing is just sitting around listening to music or taking pictures. I’d say I’m a pretty good photographer but you can be the judge of that. Just even ask a couple of my friends City light vigil, Scarlet serenity or Violet night. If you’re still reading this congratulations you’ve reached the end.
