Care to introduce yourself to our readers?
Hi! I am a singer and songwriter Mandy McMillan. I’m originally from just outside of Edmonton, Alberta but have been living in Nashville for the past 9 years writing, recording, and performing music. I love vegan ice cream and long walks in the woods.
Right now, I’m celebrating my new single, “Dream Catcher” and spending the summer in Alberta living in my own bohemian-themed trailer.
Tell us a bit about your music and writing style.
My music and writing style is influenced by many different genres. I am a huge fan of Fleetwood Mac & Stevie Nicks, John Mellencamp, and many other classic rock groups. As of recently, I have really been influenced by some more inspirational artists such as Michael Franti, Nahko and Medicine for the People, etc.
“Dream Catcher” showcases a combination of my love for both of these genres sprinkled with a little bit of country on top. My new album – also called “Dream Catcher” and due in the fall – follows a similar mix of genres.
Do you have any upcoming shows? For someone who has yet to see you live, how would you explain your live performance?
Yes! I am excited to say that I have an online live show coming up to celebrate “Dream Catcher” and have invited some of my amazing Canadian Country music friends to join. Mariya Stokes, Ben Chase, and Olivia Rose will all be joining me on Monday, July 13th at 6 pm MST on my Facebook and Instagram channels. Hope you can join!
My in-person live shows are often described as a fun, uplifting workout as said by everyone who feels pulled to the dance floor – haha!
If you were asked to suggest only one of your songs for someone to hear, which would it be?
Honestly, I would suggest “Dream Catcher”. This song has lifted the purpose of my life and what mark I want to leave as part of my artistic legacy. I want to inspire everyone to catch their dreams with so much love and excitement.
Canadian Beats is all about Canadian music, so who are your current favourite Canadian bands/ artists?
I’m a fan of everything classic rock, so Rush, The Tragically Hip, and Trooper are all at the top of my list. A current artist would be Meghan Patrick, who’s a pure full-blown country gal. I respect her badass, don’t mess with me vibe and how she shoots it straight. She’s a real Canadian Dream Catcher!
