JonoJosh (aka JJ Gerber) is back with the release of his brand new single, “Half”.
This latest track from the multi-disciplined performer delves into his experiences as a mixed race person and the struggle of trying to assert his identity in the face of racial prejudice.
The Brampton-born singer is no stranger to the spotlight, however, in 2018 Gerber broke ground as being the first non-white actor to play Gilbert Blythe in “Anne of Green Gables: The Musical”, which had been performed annually at the Charlottetown Festival in PEI for the past 53 years since the festival’s inception.
Gerber is also known for having achieved success in the past through his dancing and choreography for acts such as Marianas Trench, PSY, Carly Rae Jepson, and others.
Hi, my name is Max. I’m a journalism student currently on placement here at Canadian Beats. I grew up in the GTA, but I’ve been around Ontario a little bit for school in the past few years. I think in a lot of ways the landscape of Canadian music is partially shaped by the journalists who choose to dedicate their time to giving it exposure. By promoting and contributing to a healthy media environment for Canadian artists, journalists contribute in their own way to keeping a strong Canadian music identity alive. I’m excited to hopefully be a small part of that contribution over the next few weeks.
