Care to introduce yourself to our readers?

We have the pleasure of speaking to Canadian Beats a couple of years back, so to paraphrase the great Jigga, allow us to reintroduce ourselves. We’re High out of Toronto, Ontario. Rich, Ben, Spence and Dave are basically a Trini, a Frenchman, and two Toronto boys that mix different styles into their music and get rowdy on stages.

Tell us a bit about your music and writing style.

The common thread that brought all of us together is a love for a wide variety of musical genres. We dig Phil Collins as much as Alexisonfire and soul music as much as skate punk.  Hip-hop and reggae are in rotation as much as acoustic singer/songwriters. So while our base is alternative rock, all that other stuff creeps in. As for our writing style, it happens one of two ways. Either Rich or Spence brings in a song idea which then gets High-ified by the band, or a jam has a special vibe and we build on it right there in the jam room. Some of our favourites have been happy accidents!

Do you have any upcoming shows? For someone who has yet to see you live, how would you explain your live performance?

Sadly, you know the answer to that one. But we’ve been being little technology nerds and teaching ourselves about streaming, filming and what not – and then have gone broke finding a bigger room to have space to film in (yo, who wants to share a dope room?). Follow us on Instagram, some snazzy video and live stream action is coming your way soon. As for the second part, we pretty much lose our damn fool minds onstage. The goal is pretty simple – we’re trying to get you high, baby.

If you were asked to suggest only one of your songs for someone to hear, which would it be?

Every artist’s least favourite question 🙁  To understand where we’re coming from, JC and Me from the first EP has a great mix of influences. But since the entire band wasn’t together yet at that point, I’d [Rich] ask you guys to look out for ‘Red’ when our new EP drops in August, please n thnx!

Canadian Beats is all about Canadian music, so who are your current favourite Canadian bands/artists?

Alexisonfire always (two members have tattoos so we got no choice). Shad K is one of the most underrated hip hop artists out there. Loony on some next level R&B vibes. PUP and Big Wreck for that virtuoso goodness. Check out Texas King – just really good rock and roll.
