Care to introduce yourself to our readers?

Hi! We are The Carbons! A groove rock band from Kelowna, BC. We like surfing, hiking, riding motorcycles, playing video games, eating pizza and drinking craft beer…oh and Will Ferell movies. We strive for a balance of serious and light content because that’s how we live our lives. Life is too short to be serious all the time, but it’s also too short to spend all your time in the shallow, never exploring the depths of human potential. We all started playing music around the age of 10 and have been dreaming of touring the world ever since. We recently toured Australia and worked with one of our heroes in the band The Trews. The last 2 years have been a dream come true.

Tell us a bit about your music and writing style.

We are inspired by the funk, blues, and a whole lot of rock and roll. Growing up we all listened to classic rock records and we grew up in the 90s with the Chili Peppers, Foo Fighters, Pearl jam, Audioslave, and then later on Queens of the Stone Age, Kings of Leon, and more recently Kaleo and Royal Blood. In terms of writing, every song is different. Sometimes lyrics come first, other times guitars or bass comes first. We actually have a youtube series that talks about certain songs and how they were written. Here is the link. https://youtu.be/XX62H_dEOGo

Do you have any upcoming shows? For someone who has yet to see you live, how would you explain your live performance?

Our live performance is like the best first date you can think of. In the first half of the show we make you dance and even make you laugh. Then, we take you into some deeper songs and we finish off the night with a peck on the cheek. Leaving you wanting more. We don’t typically go all the way on the first date, but we will if you ask for it. We don’t have any performances coming up because of COVID but we have been doing Instagram lives. You can join us there at @thecarbonsmusic

If you were asked to suggest only one of your songs for someone to hear, which would it be?

Superheroes, Sleep, or Black Mirror.

Canadian Beats is all about Canadian music, so who are your current favourite Canadian bands/ artists?

Oh, easy. The Glorious Sons, The Blue Stones, Cleopatrick, The Pistolwhips, Kane Incognito…and many others.
