Award-winning singer/songwriter Tara Shannon is releasing new music for a worthy cause.
Shannon and co-writer Hayley McLean penned the song “Say” in partnering with the Canadian Hospice Palliative Association’s Advance Care Planning Initiative to support their #SpeakUp campaign.
The initiative aims to engage Canadians and encourage them to open more communication around health care needs for those who may not be able to speak for themselves. Together, Shannon and ACP hope to help bridge communication barriers between loved ones and discuss advance care planning. They created a Youtube video to help answer questions about the program in a 5-step tutorial.
Tara Shannon has been a fixture in Canadian music for the last few years, having released her debut album, Unfinished, in 2017. She’s performed at some of the most prestigious festivals including Ottawa Bluesfest, and Nashville’s CMA Fest. When speaking about the new song with the CHPA, Shannon says:
“It’s about encouraging conversation to soften the edges, to inspire deeper connection and encourage a safe space for everyone to ask for what they need. I can write songs about that all day long.”
Shannon’s been involved with past campaigns such as The Butterfly Child, in partnership with DEBRA Canada and Be You Girl, in partnership with Morguard Investments; showcasing both her talents as a songwriter and her desire to make music with a message.
