Five Questions With Joshua Wood

Originally from Ontario, now based on the West Coast, Joshua Wood has teamed up with a supergroup of players from Vancouver, BC.  Renowned producer Felix Fung (Little Red Sound Studio, Sunday Morning, Mode Moderne), Max Sample (Sunday Morning, The Ballantynes), Kyle Schick (Wishkicker, Sunday Morning) Blake Greer (Wrecked Beach) and Jaydon Bunney (Finch and Julius) to form the appropriately named ‘Orchestra’.

The band has released their first single, “Bad Way”, which has been called a dirty-folk-blues song that drips with swagger.

Check out the single below and find out more about Joshua via our Five Questions With segment.

Care to introduce yourself to our readers?

My name is Joshua Wood. I’m a singer-songwriter from St. Catharines Ontario living on the West Coast for the last 8 or so years.

Tell us a bit about your music and writing style.

I see it as a hunt ya know, and sometimes I spend weeks in alleyways searching for it wedged under the wheel of a dumpster or being carted off by a fat rat. Sometimes it just comes running at me with knives. I dunno, I guess my writing style is just being ready to get dirty for it.

Do you have any upcoming shows? For someone who has yet to see you live, how would you explain your live performance?

Due to the covid19 pandemic right now my main focus is getting this album out ASAP. Bad Way is out, Surrender (the second single) will be out early May and soon after the rest of it will be out there. Hoping by that time we can plan a release show but we’ll just have to play it as it goes. As far as my live show goes, I just hope for love, sex, sweat, laughter n tears, I try to make a couple of those things happen.

If you were asked to suggest only one of your songs for someone to hear, which would it be?

Bad Way.

Canadian Beats is all about Canadian music, so who are your current favourite Canadian bands/ artists?
