Five Questions With Laurie LeBlanc

New Brunswick’s own Laurie LeBlanc has released his first single, “The Bigger The Better” from his upcoming album, When It’s Right It’s Right.

The single is co-written by Grammy Award-winner Don Schlitz, who also wrote the No. 1 Country hit, “The Gambler” by Kenny Rogers. Don Mescall, who made a cameo appearance on the track, also co-wrote the song along with Dallas Davidson and Grammy Award Winner Mike Reid.

“I’m very honoured to have recorded this song that was written by a dream team and produced by Jason Barry, a multi-CCMA award winner. I loved the song the first time I heard it, it has a catchy chorus.” Says LeBlanc! “Who says you need to cry after a break up! Let’s have a party! THE BIGGER THE BETTER!”

Care to introduce yourself to our readers?
I consider myself a simple person, passionate to surpass myself while evolving in the process. I live in the small town of Bouctouche, NB (population 2,361).  I’ve always loved to sing and write, especially country music. I am blessed to be able to do music full time and be recognized by the industry for various awards during my 10 years as a Canadian Francophone Country Artist. Bottom line, I do this for 3 reasons; because I love it, for the fans, and hopefully inspire young artists in the process.

I’ve always wanted to record an English album with the right team, and was very fortunate to have multi-award winner Jason Barry produce my forthcoming album “When It’s Right It’s Right.” The first single “The Bigger The Better” has just been released to radio, and it’s exciting to hear all the great feedback for it. I am really looking forward to release the album.

Tell us a bit about your music and writing style.

I’ve been influenced by various music genres, rock, pop, bluegrass, and of course, country. I think it shows when I’m writing and even listening to demos. I guess my style would fall somewhere between yesterday and today.

Do you have any upcoming shows? For someone who has yet to see you live, how would you explain your live performance?

We had a great tour lined-up this year across the Maritimes, Quebec and even in France and Switzerland.  Of course with the COVID-19 pandemic, everything has either been rescheduled or canceled. But that’s fine, we just want everybody to be safe and follow the guidelines until this thing goes away. We are strong believers that “It’s not what life gives you that’s important, it’s how you react and deal with it.”

As far as my live performances, my #1 goal is to make sure the fans who have paid their hard-earned money to come to the shows, go home happy with their experience. I hope my music touches them in some way, shape or form during the 2 hour energetic ride we spend together.

If you were asked to suggest only one of your songs for someone to hear, which would it be?
I’m so proud of this new album.  There are a few strong well-written songs in there, but for now, I would have to say my new single “The Bigger The Better”.  It was written by such an incredible team of songwriters: Don Schlitz, Dallas Davidson, Mike Reid and my good buddy from Ireland Don Mescall

Canadian Beats is all about Canadian music, so who are your current favourite Canadian bands/artists?
We have so many great Canadian Artists. I really like Dean Brody, and I was fortunate to have three of his musicians record on this album. What a great bunch of guys, pros all the way!

I also like Gord Bamford’s music.  For newer artists, Brett Kissel has some nice stuff.  I was fortunate to have his fiddle player, Tyler Vollrath play a few gigs with me last year.
