Care to introduce yourself to our readers?

My name is Timothy John Bolton and I am the lead vocalist for the band CONVERSATION.

Tell us a bit about your music and writing style.

CONVERSATION’s music is all about honesty. We take influence from the post-hardcore and emo bands of the 2000s but never mimic them. Our sound is hard to define as we definitely push the levels of the genre. Some songs can be an onslaught of sporadic chaos, but others can be pensive and melancholic.

The writing in this band is very organic and all members are involved heavily. Songs start off as a riff and we will all write together until it begins to naturally become more of a formed song.

At that time, I will take the song away and put vocals and lyrics to it. We then come back together and chip away at it until we have a finished product. It’s always an amazing feeling when we’re jamming and the song really starts to feel complete.

Do you have any upcoming shows? For someone who has yet to see you live, how would you explain your live performance?

We do have some upcoming shows booked but we’ll see how the coming days pan out.

Right now, we have a record release show booked in Toronto for May 9th at an amazing venue called The Rivoli.

Our live performance is something we’re all very proud of; it’s usually described as high energy or chaotic but the songs stay true to our records. We leave everything we have on every stage we play and we’re always so grateful to anyone who comes out to see us.

If you were asked to suggest only one of your songs for someone to hear, which would it be?

Tough question.

For me, I’d say “You’ve Made Yourself Perfectly Clear” because it shows off a lot of what we’re capable of AND it has an amazing music video where our guitarist, Jay, and our drummer, Yoda, re-enact the open scene from Wayne’s World.

Canadian Beats is all about Canadian music, so who are your current favourite Canadian bands/ artists?

I asked all of the guys and here is the list we came up with:

Peacemaker, Sights and Sounds, Skye Wallace, Life In Vacuum, Sparrows, Ritual, Teeth, Eye Steal, Tradewind, Long Range Hustle, The Good Depression, The 49th Parallel, Steph Macpherson , The Purrverts, Spiritbox, Vultures.

All amazing Canadian musicians; do yourself and favour and check them out!
