Care to introduce yourself to our readers?

Hi! My name is Brittany Kennell – I’m a country artist from Montreal, QC but have been living in Nashville for most of my adult life. I’m a bit of a goof, who is always smiling.

Tell us a bit about your music and writing style.

I’m all about storytelling. I love to paint a picture in my songs, using detailed vocabulary and real-life experiences. As for my process, I write a lot – my songwriting cap is always on when I’m reading books, watching Netflix, out with friends, etc. From there, I take the ideas I have in my notes or my voice memos and build a song around that. I started incorporating a bit of production as well into my songwriting process which has been a lot of fun.

Do you have any upcoming shows? For someone who has yet to see you live, how would you explain your live performance?

I’m playing at the Corona Theatre in Montreal Saturday, February 8th, opening for Matt Lang and Tebey. If you haven’t seen me live, I would say I carry a lot of energy on stage mixed with storytelling. I’m a big fan of Bruce Springsteen and he is definitely where I get a lot of my inspiration from. I love to talk about the songs and share a little backstory on where they came from. In the words of Springsteen “I don’t want to tell you about me, I want to tell you about you!” I’m all about connecting with my audience.

If you were asked to suggest only one of your songs for someone to hear, which would it be?

Eat, Drink, Remarry – my new single. It’s upbeat with great storytelling, it’s personal and to be honest, I think most people can relate to it. I want my music to inspire people, let them know everything’s going to be okay and that it all works out – This song does just that and packs a nice a little punch for anyone going through a breakup.

Canadian Beats is all about Canadian music, so who are your current favourite Canadian bands/ artists?

There are so many great artists out there in the Canadian scene and I love to watch and support them all! Tenille Townes, The Reklaws, Emily Reid (co-writer on Eat Drink Remarry) Matt Lang, Tenille Arts.. the list goes on! Go Canada!
