Care to introduce yourself to our readers?
Hey everyone! My name is Michelle Mondesir and I’m an R&B/Soul singer-songwriter and producer based out of Toronto Canada. I’m also the lead singer of Alt-Rock band Madame Psychosis.
Tell us a bit about your music and writing style.
I’ve been writing since I was 13 and put out my first self-produced album in 2011. I love 90s R&B and Neo-Soul so a lot of my influences come from that sound. I’ve been compared to Erykah Badu, Alicia Keys, Jill Scott, and Billie Holiday to name a few. I do most if not all of the production myself from my home studio in Brampton.
Do you have any upcoming shows? For someone who has yet to see you live, how would you explain your live performance?
My next show is going to be Jan 25th as part of the IsCream showcase and it will be held at the Economic Club of Canada. My live performances have been chill, usually me performing solo to track/DJ and sometimes I’ll have a musician friend accompany me on stage.
If you were asked to suggest only one of your songs for someone to hear, which would it be?
This is a very tough question because my music can vary in tempo and vibe but I would probably say Sugar Sweetiepie because it seems to resonate with a lot of people. It’s a downtempo love song with positive vibes.
Canadian Beats is all about Canadian music, so who are your current favourite Canadian bands/ artists?
There’s so much great Canadian music out there right now. I’d say I most often have Daniel Caesar and Charolette Day Wilson in my playlists. I also love music by my talented musician friends TRP.P and Nicole Chambers.
