Care to introduce yourself to our readers?

Hi, I’m Bree Whitworth, a Kelowna born singer-songwriter based in Vancouver, BC.

Tell us a bit about your music and writing style.

I am a classically trained pianist, playing since I was 5 years old. I have been creating music my whole life. I write heart-baring, honest songs about love – not just drawing from my own experiences but those of others as well. My musical styling is singer-songwriter with a bit of pop influence in the same vein of artists like Freya Ridings or Birdy.

Writing music has always been a very liberating process for me. I always write with the intention of speaking my truth through lyrics but I bundle it up with smooth vocals and beautiful melodies that the listener will want to (hopefully) play on repeat!

Do you have any upcoming shows? For someone who has yet to see you live, how would you explain your live performance?

I’ll be returning to the stage later this year with some upcoming show dates to be announced soon! Whether it be a show with just my keys and myself or with a full band, people can expect a truly intimate and genuine performance from me. I like to really connect with my audience and the best part is that they will get to hear songs not only from my current release but also from some of my previous music projects as well.

If you were asked to suggest only one of your songs for someone to hear, which would it be?

I would probably have to say ‘Don’t Let Me Go’ because it is a nice atmospheric song with a bit of 80s inspiration that has just the right combination of synth and sadness that listeners will love.

Canadian Beats is all about Canadian music, so who are your current favourite Canadian bands/ artists?

Oh wow, so many to choose! A couple of my favourite bands/artists right now include Charlotte Cardin as her voice is just so unique, Leif Vollebekk – Elegy is hands-down the most played song on my playlist and Patrick Watson as every song he writes pretty much plays directly to my heartstrings. There is so much talent in this country, I could keep going.
