Care to introduce yourself to our readers?

Hi, I’m Garrett Kato, a Canadian born singer-songwriter living in Byron Bay, Australia.

Tell us a bit about your music and writing style.

I mostly write folk songs in my strange perspective of life. I do like soul and rock n roll music too so often those types of melodies find their way in too.

Do you have any upcoming shows? For someone who has yet to see you live, how would you explain your live performance?

Most of my shows are intimate and quiet. More like a theatre production or something. Often it’s just me and my acoustic guitar playing and telling stories to the audience.

7/4 – Toronto, ON @ Phoenix Concert Theatre w/ Ziggy Alberts
7/6 – Waterloo, ON @ Maxwell’s w/ Ziggy Alberts
7/11 – Montreal, QC @ Corona Theatre w/ Ziggy Alberts

If you were asked to suggest only one of your songs for someone to hear, which would it be?

“Distant Land” from my latest EP. I’m super proud of that song and feel it’s a good representation of my Sound currently.

Canadian Beats is all about Canadian music, so who are your current favourite Canadian bands/ artists?

Was raised on Neil Young so he will always be important to me. Been loving Leif Vollebekk’s stuff lately, he’s got such a strong sound.
