Countdown to Cavendish Beach Music Festival – Interview with Dan Davidson

Cavendish Beach Music Festival kicks off on July 5 until July 7 in Cavendish, PEI. The talent that is set to play is overwhelming, but we have caught up with a few of the artists/ bands to chat with us in a countdown to the big event. We started things off with Alli Walker, and now we’re chatting with Dan Davidson.

First off, care to introduce yourself to the readers?

Well, I’m Dan Davidson… 6’1. Scorpio. President of the Jonas Brothers Fan club, avid “floss” dance enthusiast, and self-proclaimed “pride of Alberta”… How’s that?

Have you performed at Cavendish Beach Music Festival in the past? If so, what is your favourite memory of CBMF? If not, what are you most looking forward to?

NEVER! I can’t wait! Out west we hear rumours of the east cost’s most legendary party. I can’t wait to get out there and experience it for the first time!! I’m looking forward to the food, the fans, and playing my brand new set for everyone! (I’ve got some surprises planned…)

Prince Edward Island holds many tourist attractions; do you plan to do any sightseeing? If so, what do you plan to check out?

I have a day off in Charlottetown the day before the gig. I had the chance to explore a bit this fall on the Brett Kissel “We Were That Song Tour”. Wow, what a place. Just as I hoped it would be… beautiful, small-town feeling, with some of the best restaurants and pubs ever.

How do you decide on a set list when playing a festival as big as CBMF?

Nothing slow. My job always seems to be getting people dancing and having fun. So that’s all I care about. I just try to imagine what are people going to want to sing, dance and raise a beer to

If you had to describe your performance in only 5 words, which words would you choose?

Clap, stomp, sing along, laugh, cheers!

The lineup at CBMF is stellar this year, are there any artists you feel the need to check out?

I would love to check out so many but I likely won’t see much with the show day schedule! I’d love to see Eric Church – but I gotta tell you, its always fun to see a hometown kid play a big fest like that – Id like to see the hometown rising star Ben Chase in action!

Will you be playing any other festivals this summer that you’d like to tell us about?

Big Valley Jamboree! For Western Canada… this is it. My hometown festival and one of my favs to play. I’ll be opening for a secret headliner on Sunday, Aug 4 on the Sirius XM stage. That’s sure to be a super memorable day.

Besides the music, what is your favourite thing about festivals?

I love people watching – especially at a country festival where you’ll find people of all ages, styles, shapes, and forms. It’s so cool how country music finds a way to appeal to everyone. It’s a great connector.

What was the first festival you ever attended as a fan? What about as a performer?

As a fan, I’ll always remember going to see my favourite 90s rock bands on the Summersault tour. Our Lady Peace, The Tea Party, I Mother Earth, Big Wreck… that was one of the reasons that got me thinking “wow, I wanna do that”.

Is there anything you’d like to share with your fans?

Well, I’m working hard on launching some new internet videos that you guys all love. All my whacky viral style music videos and blogs seem to have become my thing over the last year or so. Ive got some serious tricks up my sleeves coming down the pipe for you all! First, I’m off to Europe to do some writing for Scandinavian pop artists!
