Corner Brook, NL-based folk duo, Bridget & Dahlia have released their new single, “Hide”, which is the first song from their upcoming debut album, Runaways due out August 1, 2019.
Songwriter Bridget Swift shares,
”My original inspiration for ‘Hide’ was to write about my future home, about some imaginary place I’d live. It ended up turning into a song about dreaming about the future, not knowing what lies ahead, and trying to find a place in the world.”

Care to introduce yourself to our readers?
We are Bridget and Dahlia, we are a singer-songwriter duo from Corner Brook, NL.
Tell us a bit about your music and writing style.
We like to say our music is in between genres, kind of singer-songwriter-y indie folk. Something you can sway to. With writing, we both normally start with a melody and fit the lyrics in afterward. We like to write together but most of our songs are written individually, with us collaborating afterward.
Do you have any upcoming shows? For someone who has yet to see you live, how would you explain your live performance?
Yes! , we have our album launch concert in Corner Brook on August 1st, and a few other shows around Newfoundland this summer.
We have a pretty intimate live performance, normally in quieter spaces as a duo with just a guitar. We feel audiences tend to want to hear every word and the stories behind the songs. We try to get people to connect with the songs as much as possible. For our release concert, it’ll be our first time playing with a band composed of some of our really great musical friends, and we’re really excited about it.
If you were asked to suggest only one of your songs for someone hear, which would it be?
We would say “Hide”. “Hide” is a song that can have a different meaning for everyone who listens to it. To me, it’s about wondering where your life is heading and dreaming of your ideal future, which I think anyone can relate to in their own way. It’s also our first single which came out June 27.
Canadian Beats is all about Canadian music, so who are your current favourite Canadian bands/ artists?
Currently, we really love Feist, Daniel Caesar, Nap Eyes, and Joni Mitchell!
