Rain or shine, or sometimes both. Last night was the opening night of the 40th Montreal International Jazz Festival, and while the evening started with a severe thunderstorm warning from Environment Canada, it luckily only poured down for a few minutes, and the unbearable humidity did not stop a packed audience from coming to party!

Montreal collective Kalmunity opened the night as we were trying to find shelter from the rain, however we managed to catch the following set, by the amazing Fred Wesley and The New JBs!
Finally, the main attraction of the night was a highly-anticipated one, as The Brooks took the stage with many guests, in a touching yet groovy tribute to the legends who at some point performed at the festival: Stevie Wonder, Aretha Franklin, and many more!
Overall, the festival kicked off on a strong note, and we cannot wait to see what is next! For more photos of the Montreal International Jazz Festival, head over to

Hi there! My name is Marie, I am French born and raised, now living in Montreal. I work in Marketing by day, and I’m an avid concert-goer by night. I have always had a passion for photography, and realized that this mixes quite well with my love for live music (the absolute best way to experience music, if you ask me).
